This Is What Mahakumbh 2025 Looks Like From Space

Mahakumbh 2025: A grand Mahakumbh Mela is being organized in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Many saints and pilgrims from across the country and the world have reached the banks of the Sangam. Amidst all this, ISRO has released satellite images of the tent city and the Sangam in Mahakumbh. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday released before and after satellite images of the tent city in Mahakumbh Nagar, which give a glimpse of the grandeur of the Mahakumbh.

During Mahakumbh 2025, crores of people from all over the world are coming to take a holy dip in the Sangam. Mahakumbh is a major religious event held every 12 years. It is being organized in Prayagraj from January 13 and will last for 45 days till February 26. According to a statistic, more than 8 crore pilgrims have taken a holy dip in the Sangam so far.

ISRO said in a statement, “Time series images (15 September 2023 and 29 December 2024) of the EOS-04 (RISAT-1A) ‘C’ band microwave satellite … provide unique information on the network of pontoon bridges and supporting structures along with a description of the tent city (structures) set up for the Mahakumbh Mela.”

Satellite images show the construction of Shivayal Park, a park shaped like India, in Prayagraj, which is spread over 12 acres of land and is designed as a major attraction. Photographs taken on three different dates show the construction of this important site. A ‘time series’ image of Triveni Sangam was also shared on the website of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NSRC), which shows the difference between the images taken in September 2023 and 29 December 2024.
