The Meteorological Department has warned of a severe western disturbance affecting northwest India from the night of December 26. A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over southwest Rajasthan on December 27, which, combined with easterly winds, will bring high humidity from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal by December 28.

According to IMD, severe cold and heavy rain are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana in the next seven days. According to the Meteorological Department, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh are on orange alert. There is a possibility of scattered rain in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR areas during the next few days. In Punjab, fog and light rain are likely in some areas of Chandigarh.

Snowfall in the mountains has led to snowfall in Kashmir and other high-altitude areas as the drop in temperature has frozen water pipes and disrupted power generation as snow-laden rivers turned into ice. A yellow alert has been issued in the Bhakra Dam area and Balh Valley along with a persistent fog warning in Himachal, making daily life more difficult.

According to Skymet Weather, light to moderate rainfall with one or two heavy spells is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and parts of South Chhattisgarh are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Light rain and snowfall are likely over Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Light rain is likely to continue over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall activities may end over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, although light rain may continue over some parts of Uttar Pradesh.
