Purity of gold
The purity of gold is one of the most important factors to consider before purchasing gold and is defined in terms of “karat”, with 24K being the purest form. However, 24K gold is present in a slightly liquid form and needs to be mixed with other metals for strength. For example, 22k gold is a mixture of 22 parts gold, i.e. 91.6%, and 2 parts of another metal alloy. The higher the purity level, the more expensive the gold.
How is the price of gold determined?
The price of gold in India is determined based on factors like the price of gold in the international market, the exchange rate of the rupee and the dollar, import duties, demand and supply in the country. The price of gold in India is also affected by the global market. When it is the wedding season or festival time in India, the price increases due to increased demand for gold. The Indian Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA) plays a major role in determining the daily price of gold in India.
