The Met department said that the deep depression over Saurashtra and Kutch moved slowly westwards at a speed of 3 kmph during the last 6 hours and was engulfed in a depression of 23.7 degrees Celsius today, August 29. 2024. was centered near °N latitude and 69.4°E longitude. It is now located 60 km north-west of Bhuj (Gujarat), 80 km north-east of Nalia (Gujarat) and 270 km east-southeast of Karachi (Pakistan).
A cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea

The name of the storm is Asana
The Met department has said that the deep depression formed over Saurashtra and Kutch is likely to move west southwest and emerge over the northeast Arabian Sea off the coasts of Kutch and Pakistan and intensify into a cyclonic storm on Friday. When it turns into a storm, it will be named Asana. This name is given by Pakistan. From 1891 to 2023, only 3 cyclonic storms have developed over the Arabian Sea in August. The Meteorological Department said that this will be the first cyclonic storm to occur over the Arabian Sea in August since 1976. It was developed in Odisha in 1976.
