After a long dry spell in Gujarat, a new round of monsoon showers is set to begin. According to weather expert Paresh Goswami, the coming days are likely to bring widespread rain across the state.
Rain Forecast for Today and Tomorrow
On 12th August, light to moderate showers are expected in most parts of Kutch, Saurashtra, South Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and North Gujarat.
On 13th August, heavy rainfall is likely in northern districts such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, and Patan. With festivals like Janmashtami approaching, rainfall activity is expected to intensify in the coming days.
Will Satam-Atham Witness Heavy Rains?
Paresh Goswami mentioned that rainfall had decreased since early August, but there’s good news for farmers. From 15th to 16th August, a fresh and widespread rain spell is expected across Gujarat.
This system will originate from the Bay of Bengal, with the Arabian Sea also gradually becoming active. A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop on 12th or 13th August, moving from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and eventually Gujarat. This will especially impact South Gujarat and parts of the Arabian Sea coast.
Heavy Rain Likely Between 15th to 21st August
If there are no major changes in the system’s track, districts in South Gujarat and Saurashtra are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between 15th and 21st August.
Particularly, Gir Somnath, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, and Amreli in western Saurashtra — areas that have seen less rain so far — may experience intense downpours. Kutch district is also likely to receive widespread and significant rainfall.
Central and North Gujarat will also see good showers, though the intensity will be slightly lower compared to Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
