There have been reports in various electronic and print media about the outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China. DGHS, NCDC. MoH&FW and Government of India have issued a statement on 03/01/2025 stating that Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a virus similar to other canine viruses. It appears during the winter season, especially in young children and the elderly, and its symptoms include common cold and flu.
The Health Department has analyzed the current data on infectious diseases related to dogs in the state. In which there was no significant increase in December 2024 compared to December 2023. The Health and Family Welfare Department urges citizens to follow the rules of do’s and don’ts to protect against infectious diseases related to dogs.
What to do (Do’s):
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use sanitizer.
- Stay away from crowded places and maintain at least one arm’s length distance from people suffering from flu → Avoid going to public places if you have a fever, cough or sneeze.
- Drink more water and eat nutritious food.
- Get enough sleep for a strong immune system.
- Stay in an environment with proper ventilation to prevent the spread of diseases.
- If you experience respiratory symptoms, stay home, limit contact with others, and immediately contact the nearest government hospital.
Don’ts:
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth unless necessary.
- An infected person should ensure that personal items such as towels, handkerchiefs, or other utensils do not come into contact with or be used by another person.
- Avoid self-medication, contact a health worker if symptoms worsen.
Don’t panic, caution is the best defense, so be sure to follow these guidelines.
