Gujarat Heavy Rain Alert September 2025: The Gujarat Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to the impact of two systems on the state. In which, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been expressed with red alert in 5 districts today, while extremely heavy rainfall has been expressed at some places. These include Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Aravalli and Surendranagar.
Why Gujarat is Facing Heavy Rainfall?
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a well-marked low pressure system formed over the Arabian Sea has now moved closer to the Gujarat coast. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation is active in the region, creating favorable conditions for widespread rain showers. Such weather systems are common during the monsoon season, but when they intensify, they can cause flash floods, waterlogging, and traffic disruption in urban areas.
Districts Under Red Alert Today
On 06 September 2025, IMD has issued a red alert for the following districts:
- Dang
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Daman
- Dadra & Nagar Haveli
These areas are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall, which means more than 200 mm in 24 hours. Residents of these districts are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow instructions issued by the local administration.
Other Districts Under Orange Alert
Apart from the red alert areas, heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been forecast for several other parts of Gujarat under the orange alert. These include:
- Panchmahal
- Dahod
- Vadodara
- Surat
- Tapi
- Amreli
- Bhavnagar
In these districts, rainfall between 115 mm to 200 mm is possible, which may disrupt normal life. Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops.
Forecast for the Next Few Days
The rainfall activity is not limited to just one day. According to IMD:
- 5 September: Extremely heavy rainfall in Tapi, Navsari, Dang, and Valsad.
- 6 September: Heavy showers in Surendranagar, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli.
- 7–9 September: Several central and south Gujarat districts may continue to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
- 10–11 September: Rains are expected to reduce in intensity, but light to moderate showers will continue.
This prolonged spell of rain is likely to increase water levels in rivers, dams, and reservoirs, which could be good for agriculture but risky for low-lying villages.
Impact on Daily Life & Safety Measures
The Gujarat government and disaster management teams have already been put on alert. People are advised to:
- Avoid travelling through flooded roads.
- Stay away from riverbanks and low-lying areas.
- Keep emergency supplies such as torch, medicines, and drinking water ready.
- Farmers should check for drainage to avoid crop damage.
School holidays may be announced in some of the highly affected districts if the rain intensity increases.
