Aadhaar Card Rules Updated: Aadhaar Card rules have been updated from today and several important changes have come into effect. The biggest updates include online mobile number changes, simplified update processes, and free services for a limited period. UIDAI has introduced a new system that allows users to update their name, address, date of birth and mobile number directly through the myAadhaar portal without visiting any Aadhaar Seva Kendra, provided mobile OTP verification is active.
Key Changes in Aadhaar Card Rules from Today
UIDAI has announced major reforms to make Aadhaar updates simpler and more user friendly. Most demographic updates like name, address, date of birth and mobile number can now be updated online through the myAadhaar portal. Due to integration with government databases, UIDAI will automatically verify submitted information, reducing paperwork and speeding up approvals.
Updates that still require Aadhaar Seva Kendra visits include biometric updates such as fingerprints, iris scans and photographs. However, due to automated verification, even biometric updates will become quicker and more accurate. UIDAI has also announced that Aadhaar update charges have been waived for one year, allowing document updates for free on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026.
What Has Changed in Aadhaar Rules
If mobile OTP verification is active, users no longer need to visit an Aadhaar centre to update name, address, date of birth or mobile number. UIDAI will use existing government data for automatic verification, reducing manual checks. Biometric update charges remain Rs 125, but for children in age groups 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years, biometric updates will be free. Updating demographic details separately costs Rs 75, but if done along with biometric updates, there is no charge. Document updates through the myAadhaar portal are free until June 14, 2026, while the fee for the same service at centres remains Rs 75.
PAN Aadhaar Linking Deadline
UIDAI has reminded citizens to link Aadhaar with PAN by December 31, 2025. Failure to do so may result in PAN becoming inactive, restrictions on financial services, delays in KYC completion and refund processing. Users can track their Aadhaar update status using the URN (Update Request Number) via the myAadhaar portal.
