Haryana Election Results 2024: Counting of votes is underway in Haryana which will decide the fate of candidates who have contested the Haryana elections that took place on October 5. Polling took place in Haryana in a single phase across all the 90 Assembly constituencies. As most exit polls have predicted a Congress win, the grand old party, which is out of power for 10 years, is hopeful of making a comeback. The ruling BJP, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at its helm, is still confident of retaining power for a third consecutive term. The fate of 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women will be decided today.

Besides Nayab Saini, who is contesting from the Ladwa Assembly constituency in Haryana, prominent candidates in the fray are Congress veteran Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is nominated from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency, INLD’s Abhay Chautala, contesting from Ellenabad seat, JJP’s Dushyant Chautala (Uchana Kalan), BJP’s Anil Vij (Ambala Cantt), Captain Abhimanyu (Narnaund), O P Dhankar (Badli), Congress candidate from Julana Vinesh Phogat. From Dabwali, Devi Lal’s grandson Aditya Devi Lal, an INLD candidate, is taking on JJP’s Digvijay Singh Chautala, great grandson of the former deputy prime minister.

The 2019 Haryana Assembly election resulted in a hung assembly, with the BJP winning 40 seats and the Congress 31, while Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) secured 10 seats. The JJP then became the kingmaker. The saffron party formed a coalition with the JJP and came into power, with Manohar Lal Khattar swearing in as the CM. However, tensions between the two parties escalated in early 2024, resulting in Khattar and his ministers resigning. Nayab Singh Saini was then sworn in as the new Chief Minister, backed by 48 MLAs, including six independents and one Haryana Lokhit Party MLA.
