As Holi approaches and temperatures begin rising across Gujarat, unseasonal rainfall has increased concerns, especially for farmers in North Gujarat. The sudden shift in weather conditions has created uncertainty during the final phase of winter.
Three Weather Systems Active
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), three major weather systems are currently active simultaneously:
- Western Disturbance
- Cyclonic Circulation
- Trough system
Due to the combined impact of these systems, cloudy conditions are expected in several parts of the state. Wind speeds from the north-west direction may also remain higher than normal.
Rain Forecast in These Districts
Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in parts of North and East Gujarat, particularly in:
- Sabarkantha
- Aravalli
- Mahisagar
- Dahod
Wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h in these areas. Farmers have been advised to move harvested crops stored in market yards to safer locations to prevent damage.
Weather Outlook from 19 to 24 February
From 19 to 24 February, weather conditions across Gujarat are expected to remain mostly dry, offering temporary relief from unseasonal rainfall. However, isolated light showers in parts of North Gujarat cannot be ruled out.
Why Farmers Are Concerned
Unseasonal rain during February can damage standing crops such as wheat and gram. Vegetable crops may also suffer losses due to excess moisture and strong winds. If such weather conditions persist for several days, it could significantly impact agricultural output.
With rising temperatures on one side and unexpected rainfall on the other, Gujarat farmers are facing a challenging situation. Citizens and farmers are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
